Questions to Ask Kids About Worship: Nurturing Young Hearts for God

As a mom of two energetic little ones, I know how important it is to create meaningful conversations that help our kids understand the world around them. One area that holds importance to me is worship. Teaching my kids about worship isn’t just a task; it’s a beautiful opportunity for me to shape their understanding of who God is and why we honor Him. Asking our kids questions can be fun, but a little overwhelming – what should we ask them? Am I asking the right questions? Today I want to encourage you with some fun and engaging questions to ask your kids about worship – for all ages!

Kids 3 and Under

  1. What sound does our church make when we worship?
Encourage them to think about the music, clapping, and singing. This helps them associate worship with joyful sounds and experiences.
  2. Can you show me how you worship?
Ask them to dance, clap, or raise their hands. This not only makes it interactive but also teaches them that worship can be expressed in many fun ways!
  3. What is your favorite worship song?
Encourage them to hum or sing a line from their favorite worship song. This activity not only helps them connect with worship through music but also allows you to introduce them to new songs they can enjoy in a fun way! You can even create a little family sing-along session to make it more interactive and enjoyable.

Little Ones (Ages 3-5)

  1. What is worship?
Start with the basics! Ask your child what they think worship means. This will give you insight into their understanding and provide an opportunity to explain worship as loving and honoring God.
  2. How do you feel when we sing at church?
This question helps them connect their feelings with worship. You might hear everything from joy to excitement, and it’s a perfect time to discuss how worship can be a joyful expression of our love for God.
  3. Can you think of a special time when you felt close to God?
Encouraging them to recall specific moments helps them learn to recognize God’s presence in their lives. It also makes worship personal and relatable!

Elementary School Kids (Ages 6-10)

  1. Why do we worship?
This question opens the door for deeper discussion. You can explain that worship is our way of showing love and gratitude to God for who He is and all He does.
  2. What is your favorite song or activity during worship? Why?
Kids love to express their preferences! This not only highlights their connection to worship but also helps you understand what resonates with them.
  3. What is one thing you’re thankful for that God has done in your life?
This question encourages kids to reflect on their personal experiences and recognize God’s presence in their lives. It’s a great opportunity to discuss gratitude in worship and how we can express thankfulness through our actions and words. You might even invite them to share a short story or example to illustrate their gratitude!

Tweens and Teens (Ages 11 and Up)

  1. How can we worship God outside of church?
This question encourages them to think about worship as a lifestyle, not just an activity. Discuss practical ways they can live out their worship daily.
  2. What does it mean to worship God with your whole heart?
This question encourages them to explore the idea of wholehearted worship and what it looks like in their daily lives. It can lead to discussions about sincerity, commitment, and how to cultivate a genuine relationship with God. You might ask them to share ways they can actively practice this kind of worship in their actions and attitudes.
  3. How can we help others understand the importance of worship?
This fosters a sense of responsibility in them. Encouraging them to share their beliefs and experiences can help them become leaders among their peers.

Making Worship Personal

As you ask your kids these questions about worship, remember to make it fun and engaging! Try to add some activities like drawing, singing, or even acting out stories from the Bible that illustrate worship. Our goal is to create a safe space for open conversations where kids can express their thoughts and ask their questions freely.

The Importance of Teaching Worship

Our world is filled with distractions, so taking the time to teach our kids about worship helps them develop a strong foundation in their faith. It’s crucial to instill an understanding of who God is and why we worship from a young age. By asking questions, we can guide them to discover their own relationship with God and help them grow into confident, faithful individuals.

Worship is our lifestyle and there are ways to incorporate worship everyday at home with your kids, check out our blog about creating a culture of worship at home. So, let’s commit to nurturing our children’s hearts with intentional discussions about worship. After all, the conversations we have today can shape the worshippers of tomorrow!

I hope you find these questions to ask kids about worship helpful and inspiring! Let’s make worship an exciting adventure for our families. I’d love to hear your ideas! What questions do you love to ask your kids?
