Crafts About Worship for Kids: Fun and Meaningful Activities for Praise, Prayer, and Thankfulness

As a mom of two, I am always looking for ways to incorporate teaching my kids about worship and keeping their little brains learning. I think that craft time is a wonderful way to explore worship in a hands-on, memorable way. Whether you’re a stay at home mom, a Sunday school teacher or a grandparent looking for something meaningful to do, these crafts about worship will engage kids in learning about God while creating something they’ll be proud of!

Why Worship Crafts?

Crafts about worship don’t just keep little hands busy; they help kids understand how worship is part of our everyday lives. These simple and fun crafts can open up conversations about God, worship, and gratitude. Plus, it’s something they will be proud of and helps them have a lasting reminder of what they’ve learned!

1. Praise Shakers

Materials Needed: Paper plates, markers, stickers, dried beans or rice, stapler, colorful ribbons (optional).

Instructions:

  1. Decorate the bottom side of a paper plate with markers, stickers, or even stamps. Let the kids express their love for God with colors and designs that make them happy!
  2. Place a handful of beans or rice on one plate.
  3. Staple a second paper plate on top, sealing the edges to keep everything inside.
  4. (Optional) Attach ribbons to the edges for a little extra flair!

Lesson: Praise is joyful and lively! These shakers remind them to make a joyful noise to the Lord, just like Psalm 100 teaches us.

2. Prayer Pockets

Materials Needed: Construction paper, markers, scissors, glue, a small envelope, and decorative supplies (like stickers or glitter).

Instructions:

  1. Have each child decorate their envelope with their favorite colors, stickers, or even some glitter!
  2. Cut out small slips of paper, where kids can write or draw prayer requests and things they’re thankful for.
  3. Help them glue the envelope onto a larger piece of construction paper to create a “Prayer Pocket.”

Lesson: This craft encourages kids to communicate with God. Each prayer slip represents something on their hearts, and the Prayer Pocket reminds them that God listens to every word. You can read verses about prayer too, like Philippians 4:6!

3. Thankfulness Tree

Materials Needed: Brown construction paper, colored paper (in fall leaf colors), scissors, markers, glue, and a large poster board.

Instructions:

  1. Draw and cut out a tree trunk and branches from the brown construction paper. Glue it onto the poster board.
  2. Cut out leaf shapes from the colored paper.
  3. Have each child write something they’re thankful for on a leaf, then glue it to the branches.

Lesson: This craft centers around gratitude, helping kids recognize God’s blessings in their lives. It’s a great visual reminder that we can be thankful every day. You can read verses about thankfulness too, like 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

4. Heartfelt Worship Drums

Materials Needed: Empty oatmeal containers or large cans, markers, stickers, colored paper, and glue.

Instructions:

  1. Decorate the outside of the container with colorful paper, stickers, and designs.
  2. Secure the lid, and encourage kids to use these drums as a fun way to express their love for God through rhythm!

Lesson: Worship comes from the heart and can be expressed in different ways. These drums give kids a way to praise God with music they make themselves! Read Psalm 150 to teach kids that worshipping God through music is a great way to give Him praise!

5. Glowing “Light of the World” Jars

Materials Needed: Clean mason jars, glow-in-the-dark paint, paintbrushes, and tea lights (battery-operated).

Instructions:

  1. Use glow-in-the-dark paint to make designs on the mason jars—encourage kids to paint crosses, hearts, or whatever reminds them of Jesus.
  2. Place a battery-operated tea light inside to make the jars glow!

Lesson: Jesus is the Light of the World, and we are called to shine His light. This craft reminds kids to let their light shine, both in class and at home. This craft also reminds us of John 8:12 – that Jesus is the light!

6. Fruit of the Spirit Bracelets

Materials Needed: Beads in various colors, string, and small letter beads (optional).

Instructions:

  1. Choose different colors to represent each Fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control).
  2. Kids can string the beads to create a bracelet that reminds them to live out these qualities.

Lesson: Each bead represents a quality God wants us to have. Kids can look at their bracelet and remember to be kind, patient, and loving, showing the “fruits” of worship in daily life. Read Galatians 5:22-23 to tach the kids about the fruits of the Spirit!
